The blossoming love affair between Jack and Rose is the central narrative of the film, one that leads them to make risky, fateful decisions in order to stay together.

It occurs in a social gathering, but not without the help of costumes.

If it were not for costumes the result of love might have been drastically different. In the case of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo hears about the masque and decides to go, thinking that he might be able to get away with this scheme.

Because they commit quickly, take risks for each other, and disregard their families’ feud, Romeo and Juliet not merely infatuated, but in love.

Romeo and Juliet committed to each other very quickly.
